The Nezu Museum

Along with catalogues of special exhibitions, museum collection, annual bulletins, a variety of original goods are on sale, based on worlds of art held at the Nezu Museum. Core of the original goods are based on the image of national treasure Irises screens. Stationaries based on the Nezu Museum mascot, Double-Ram Zun bronze ware from ancient China are also popular.

We are proud to present “Weapons and Armor” as vol.10 of our twelve-volume series of collection catalogue “Masterpieces from the Nezu Collection, New Edition”. The swords and sword fittings have been carefully chosen to convey the distinctive character of the collection’s origin, the Mitsumura Collection. In addition, this volume features, for the first time, the “Haramaki Type Armor with Black Leather Lacing”, an Important Cultural Property, and other armor. Covering the works shown at the “Cutting a Valiant Figure” exhibition, the 142 works in this volume provide a comprehensive overview of the collection, which had only been known to a quite limited extent in the past.

This paulownia-wood box with apertures in the form of an N and M, the Nezu Museum’s initials, has Akikusa(autumn flowers) hand-painted on it by a Yuzen kimono craftsman. Slide out the lid lining to open the apertures and the sweet, gentle fragrance from the sachet inside will drift out. The chrysanthemum and bush clover design are based on Flowers in the Four Seasons screens, in our museum’s collection. Enjoy this lovely scent box and the fragrance it adds to your life.
