This Daiitoku Myōō (Yamantaka) figure has six arms, six heads and six legs, all shown in a fierce, rage-filled form, symbolizes Great Awe-inspiring Power of Virtue. The image would have been used in ritual of esoteric Buddhism, for canceling negative enemies. This style, with its emphasis on movement and dynamism, dates from the Kamakura period.
