This is a single deity image of Dainichi Nyorai (Mahavairocana), in the Mandala of the Kongōkai or Diamond Realm, wearing a jeweled crown and with hands held in the knowledge-fist mudra. The magnificent decoration of his garments and dais reflect the sumptuous aesthetic of the late Heian period imperial aristocracy.
