This is a pictorial version of the ingakyō, or “Sutra of Causes and Effects” describing stories of Sakyamuni's incarnation and his biography before he became a Buddha. This version dated 1254 is called the “Shin-ingakyō”, vs. the “Ko-ingakyō” produced in the Nara period, 8th century.
